Boil Advisory Issued for West Central Bossier Water System Following Storm-Related Power Failure

A precautionary boil advisory has been issued for customers of the West Central Bossier Water System following a power failure at the system’s main plant during last night’s storm, which caused a loss of water pressure in the system.

According to system officials, the facility’s generator transferred between commercial power and backup power multiple times during the storm. This repeated switching caused issues with electrical fuses and resulted in a loss of system pressure on two occasions, beginning around 9:00 p.m.

Due to a loss of pressure, the Louisiana Department of Health has issued a boil advisory to protect public health.

Areas Affected

• All customers served by the West Central Bossier Water System
• The advisory includes the Bossier Maximum Security Facility and the Bossier Medium Security Facility

What Residents Should Do

Until further notice, all affected customers are advised to boil water for at least one full minute before:

• Drinking
• Cooking
• Making ice
• Brushing teeth
• Washing food
• Alternatively, residents may use bottled water.

Next Steps

Water system personnel are working to restore normal operations and will collect water samples for testing. The boil advisory will remain in place until testing confirms the water is safe for consumption and the advisory is officially lifted.
