Freedom Fest Plans for South Bossier Park

The countdown to Independence Day has officially begun as Ms. Jan Elkins, Community Project Director for KTBS, presented the much-anticipated plans for the 2025 KTBS Freedom Fest Finale to the Police Jury, set to take place on July 4th at South Bossier Park.

Now in its third year at South Bossier Park, the Freedom Fest Finale is quickly becoming a tradition in the Ark-La-Tex region. The event, co-sponsored by the Bossier Parish Police Jury, celebrates God and Country with a vibrant mix of live music, food vendors, family-friendly activities, and a breathtaking fireworks display that lights up the summer sky.

During her presentation, Ms. Elkins emphasized the event’s growing popularity and its positive impact on the community. “Freedom Fest is more than just a fireworks show,” she said. “It’s a celebration of unity, patriotism, and the incredible spirit of our local families.

Last year’s event drew an estimated 1,800 attendees, a number expected to grow this year as word spreads about the festival’s welcoming atmosphere and high-quality entertainment. Local businesses and food vendors also benefit from the influx of visitors, making the event a boost for the regional economy.

South Bossier Park, with its spacious grounds and family-friendly amenities, is proving to be the perfect venue for the celebration. The park’s continued role as host reflects the strong partnership between KTBS and Bossier Parish, both of which are committed to fostering community pride and togetherness.

Andy Bajnauth Introduced as New Bossier City Engineer

The Bossier Parish Police Jury recently welcomed Andy Bajnauth, P.E., MBA, as the new City Engineer for Bossier City. Bajnauth introduced himself during a public meeting, sharing highlights of his professional journey and expressing enthusiasm for his new role.

Bajnauth began his engineering career with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), where he served for six years. He then transitioned to the private sector, working with a consulting firm for eight years. His combined experience in public infrastructure and private development uniquely positions him to lead Bossier City's engineering initiatives.

During the meeting, BPPJ Vice President Tom Salzer thanked Bajnauth for his introduction and warmly welcomed him, stating, “I’m sure we are looking forward to working with you.”

As City Engineer, Bajnauth will oversee the City’s Engineering Department, which plays a vital role in shaping Bossier’s infrastructure. The department collaborates with engineers, architects, developers, and contractors to ensure that all infrastructure projects meet city standards and are properly inspected before being dedicated to the city.

The Engineering Department is comprised of several key divisions:

  • Building Maintenance
  • Flood Hazard Information
  • Geographic Information System (GIS)
  • Permits & Inspections Division
  • Property Standards Division
  • Traffic Engineering Division

Bossier Press-Tribune Selected as Official Journal for BPPJ

The Bossier Parish Police Jury officially awarded the role of Official Journal for the upcoming fiscal year to the Bossier Press-Tribune (BPT), following the opening of sealed bids during the regular meeting.

The Bossier Press-Tribune was the sole bidder for the position and has consistently provided reliable and timely publication of the Police Jury’s official proceedings, legal notices, ordinances, and public announcements. This appointment covers the period from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026, continuing a longstanding partnership between the parish and the local publication.

“The Bossier Press-Tribune has been a trusted partner in ensuring transparency and public access to government actions,” said Dr. Ken Ward, Parish Administrator. “Their continued service as our Official Journal helps us maintain open lines of communication with the residents of Bossier Parish.”

Over the years, the BPT has played a vital role in:

  • Promoting civic engagement by publishing meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Ensuring legal compliance through the timely dissemination of ordinances and resolutions.
  • Supporting community awareness by highlighting public hearings, infrastructure updates, and emergency notices.

This partnership not only fulfills a legal requirement but also reinforces the Police Jury’s commitment to accountability and public service. Residents can continue to rely on the Bossier Press-Tribune for accurate and accessible information about the decisions shaping their community.

Local Bridge Repair Update: Progress on South Bossier Projects

Residents of South Bossier Parish can expect smoother travel ahead as two major bridge projects continue to make steady progress. Parish Engineer Eric Hudson briefed the Bossier Parish Police Jury on the status of the Caplis-Sligo Road and Smith Road bridge reconstructions.

During the update, accompanied by aerial drone footage, Hudson reported that the Caplis-Sligo Road bridge, which closed July 4 of last year, is advancing on schedule. The deck panels have already been installed, and crews are preparing to pour concrete in the coming days. If all goes as planned, the bridge could reopen by the end of summer.

Meanwhile, construction on the Smith Road bridge is also underway. Hudson noted that the foundational piles have been successfully driven into the ground. The new design features a 40-foot span between piles, a significant improvement over the previous 15-foot span. This change is expected to reduce the accumulation of wood drift and improve long-term durability.

The Smith Road bridge is projected to be completed by late fall or early winter, offering another key improvement to the parish’s infrastructure.

These upgrades are part of ongoing efforts to maintain transportation routes and ensure safer, more efficient travel for Bossier Parish residents.
