It’s a Hat Trick for the Bossier Parish Police Jury

LWCC Award

The Bossier Parish Police Jury was once again named one of the 70th safest businesses to work for in the State of Louisiana. This is the third straight year for the Jury.

Jason Hazelton, Safety Services Consultant with the Louisiana Workers' Compensation Corporation (LWCC), awarded a plaque to Glenn Benton, Police Jury President, for being one of the 70 safest workplaces in the state in 2024.

LWCC is a workers' compensation provider in Louisiana, serving nearly 20,000 companies. They strive for excellence in underwriting and providing lifelong care to injured workers.

Representatives from each department of the Bossier Parish Police Jury were present to receive the award. Dr. Ken Ward, Parish Administrator, commented that the award goes to the entire staff for their dedication to keeping the parish moving forward and helping to keep the citizens of Bossier Parish safe.

Jason said he enjoys working with this police jury. “The procedures I always see in safety, from the supervisors to the guys on the ground, are always willing to work with us to implement safety protocols and corrective actions; it’s no surprise that you received this award.”

According to their website, LWCC has fueled Louisiana's economic growth by paying policyholders more than $1.25 billion in dividends for nearly two decades.

Since 2003, the police jury has been awarded nearly $2 million in dividends.

Bossier Council on Aging Celebrates 50 Years of Service

The Bossier Council on Aging marks its 50th anniversary this year, celebrating five decades of dedicated service to seniors in Bossier Parish. Since its founding on June 16, 1975, the organization has provided essential programs such as meal delivery, transportation, homemaker services, and wellness activities, helping older adults live independently with dignity.

The Bossier Parish Police Jury recognized the Council’s leadership, staff, and volunteers for their compassionate commitment and lasting impact on the community. The milestone highlights the Council’s enduring role as a vital support system for the parish’s aging population.

South Bossier Walking Trail Bid Awarded to Synergen Construction

The long-anticipated South Bossier Park walking trail project is officially moving forward. The Bossier Parish Police Jury has awarded the construction contract to Synergen Construction, whose bid of $198,076 was the sole submission received by the parish engineering staff.

The project will be partially funded by a $125,000 state grant, significantly offsetting the total cost and enabling the development of a high-quality recreational space for the community.

The new walking trail will span 5,400 feet and will feature a mulch surface, offering a more natural and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional gravel or asphalt. This design not only enhances the park’s aesthetic but also provides a softer surface ideal for runners and walkers alike.

Keith Sutton, District 12 Police Juror, emphasized the trail’s value to the community: “South Bossier Park is already one of the busiest recreational areas in the parish, and this new walking trail will be a great addition. It gives families, athletes, and visitors another reason to enjoy the outdoors and stay active. We’re excited to see it come to life.”

In addition to serving the general public, the trail will support cross-country events, which are regularly hosted at South Bossier Park. The new trail is expected to enhance the park’s appeal as a venue for regional athletic competitions.

Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in late June, with updates to follow as the project progresses.
