Homeland Security coordinates the transition of multiple agencies and programs into a single, integrated agency focused on protecting the American people and their homeland. More than 87,000 different governmental jurisdictions at the federal, state, and local level have homeland security responsibilities. The comprehensive national strategy seeks to develop a complementary system connecting all levels of government without duplicating effort. A major component of the US Department of Homeland Security is Emergency Preparedness and Response, building on the long and solid track record of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), locally, the Bossier Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness ensures that our community is prepared for incidents, whether natural, man-made or technological disasters and helps coordinate a comprehensive response and recovery strategy.
In Bossier Parish, our office coordinates federal, state and local programs that directly affect local first responders, government, public and private sector agencies, volunteers and emergency management personnel. These programs include the Homeland Security Grant, the National Incident Management System (NIMS), Disaster Response/Program Grants and Emergency Management Performance Grants (EMPG).
