During the October 16 Police Jury meeting, jurors unanimously voted to name the long-awaited north/south corridor Veterans Parkway.
Doug Rimmer, District 8 Juror, proposed naming the corridor during the October 2 Road/Subdivision Regulations Committee meeting. Rimmer said naming the corridor Veterans Parkway would be a great way to say thank you to the active-duty members and veterans in our community. “The new parkway will be a vital part of the north central area of the parish and a perpetual reminder that we are veteran-friendly to those who served and have made Bossier home.”
Also, the jurors voted unanimously to establish two separate speed limits on the parkway. The posted speed limits will be 45 miles per hour for 1.5 miles of the roadway and 50 miles per hour for the remaining miles.
The nearly 4-mile stretch of roadway will connect I-220 at Swan Lake Rd. to LA Hwy 162 via Crouch Rd. The parkway cost taxpayers more than $20.8 million to build and took nearly two years to complete.
While work on the corridor is nearing completion, the police jury believes this is a proactive step to reflect the parish’s commitment to recognizing Barksdale's important relationship with the community.
Eric Hudson, Parish Engineer, said the parkway is projected to be completed before the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Parks and Recreation Director Warren Saucier also told the jurors about South Bossier Park's activity, including several sporting events like lacrosse and cross-country running. He said the park recently hosted one of the largest cross-country track meets in the state that Parkway High School sponsored, with more than nine hundred runners participating.
Saucier said the park will soon host a cross-country meet for college students, which will be a first.
