STARBASE Louisiana at Barksdale Air Force Base proudly recognizes Coach Warren Saucier for a decade of partnership that has advanced STEM education for thousands of students across Bossier Parish.
In 2015, STARBASE Louisiana pioneered a groundbreaking initiative—the first in the nation to teach high school students through hands-on rocket building and launching. This innovation faced early challenges, but thanks to Coach Saucier’s leadership and generosity, the program found its home at South Bossier Park.
Program Impact:
- Launch Events: Seven per year for high school students.
- Student Reach:
60 high school students annually.
2,000 fifth graders annually (ALL parish fifth graders) in a five-day STEM program.
Achievements:
- First STARBASE program in the nation to include high school students.
- Haughton JROTC team: First nationally to reach ARC nationals—three times.
- Alumni now work at SpaceX and design instrumentation for the U.S. Air Force.
In STARBASE, students design, build, and 3D print rockets from scratch as part of engineering classes—an experience often compared to the inspiration in October Sky. These hands-on projects spark curiosity and prepare students for future STEM careers.
“Coach Saucier’s commitment has helped STARBASE Louisiana launch dreams, literally,” said Richard Scott, STARBASE Louisiana Director. “His support ensures students have the resources and environment to succeed.”
STARBASE Louisiana will continue its annual programs at South Bossier Park and maintain this valuable partnership for future launches.
