The parish’s newest park is rapidly becoming one of its most popular. Already, the park is a favorite site for cross-country competitions on local and regional levels. Competitions between middle and high school teams continue to grow as more and more schools discover the possibilities the park presents.
Local youth football, baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse teams use the park’s several practice fields to hone their skills. Additionally, area schools have used the fields for aeronautical exercises including miniature rocket launches and drone skill competition. Amateur enthusiasts have brought their model airplanes to the park for weekend skill sessions.
Bathroom facilities have been installed at two separate areas of the park and the parish police jury completed an extensive overlay project on the former gravel road leading into the park to improve access.
Police Jury highway department crews have also completed a secondary road, topped with asphalt millings, running behind the fields. That road will be used to conveniently move traffic into and out of the park during large events. In the future, the secondary road will be paved, using asphalt.
With more than 100 acres at the park, plans to expand services continue well into the next years. In the future, parish officials want to see the park’s fields upgraded to competition level for all outdoor sports and the feasibility of lighting some fields is being studied.
