Trailblazer Workshop: October 2, 2020

09/18/2020

A free Forestry Best Management Practices (BMPs) workshop and field tour will be held Friday, Oct. 2 at Red Oak Lake near Haughton to provide information to forest landowners on how to make their woodlands healthier, more profitable, and sustainable.

Workshop activities will be hosted by USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and Trailblazer RC&D.

Topics include best management practices such as controlled burning or prescribed burning to help maintain forest health.  A controlled burn is a well-planned and managed burn designed to reduce flammable forest debris, restore ecosystem health, recycle nutrients, and improve wildlife habitat.

At this workshop, individuals will learn from experts in forestry and conservation the local regulations on controlled burns, how to utilize this important forest management tool, and information on valuable financial and technical assistance.

On-site registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 2, at Red Oak Lake, 1495 Potter Road, near Haughton.  The workshop begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 2:30 p.m.

Lunch will be provided, so pre-registration is important.  To pre-register or for more information, call or text (318) 237-8350 and leave name and contact information plus the name of the workshop.

Free registration for this workshop is made possible by the support of these partners and sponsors:  ENABLE Midstream Partners; Mudd & Holland Consulting Foresters, LLC; Allstate Land & Timber Co., Inc.; Burnham Construction; Canfor Southern Pine; Bossier Parish Police Jury; Webster Parish Police Jury; USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service; and Trailblazer RC&D.
