Bids sought on more home demolitions


A second round of demolitions will begin in the near future after the Bossier Parish Police Jury voted Wednesday to advertise for bids to take down seven more flood-damaged homes in south Bossier neighborhoods.

Funds to proceed with the demolition program have already been approved by the federal Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.

Bids will be accepted to remove homes at 108 Tall Timbers Blvd., 347 Cane Bend Dr. off Sligo Rd., 208 Whispering Pine Rd. in Haughton and 227 Shadow Ridge Dr. in Bossier City.

Also, 2030 Lalo Rd. in Elm Grove, 627 Pine Cone Dr., Haughton and 265 Hurricane Bluff Rd., Elm Grove.

Demolition has begun on homes in Tall Timbers, with four residences completed and two remaining. A seventh home, located on Cane Bend, is also scheduled to be removed.

Police jury members also:

·      Amended a resolution authorizing the expenditure of funds for demolition of homes listed above.

·      Agreed to advertise for bids for annual supplies, asphaltic concrete paving material and for the annual supplies of tires for the Bossier Parish Highway Dept. Bids will be received Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m.

·      Approved the plat of the proposed development of Turtle Creek subdivision Unit 3 following a lengthy public hearing. Approval is contingent on acceptance of standards by the state Dept. of Environmental Quality and the Dept. of Health and Hospitals.

·      Closed two cases under review by the parish Property Standards division.

·      Heard a report from the road/subdivision committee, and voted against a proposal presented by the jury’s capital improvements/building and grounds committee.

·      Adopted an ordinance to officially post certain bridge structures in Bossier Parish in connection with the state’s off-system bridge replacement program and adopted the annual certification of compliance with the state off-system bridge replacement program.

·      Reduced the speed limit on a portion of Old Plain Dealing Rd. beginning at the town of Benton city limits and extending approximately one mile to Willow Bend Rd. from 45 to 35 m.p.h.

·      Ratified approval of a permit to Aethon Energy Operating, LLC for a pipeline servitude and easement.

·      Agreed to make improvements to Ballard Rd.

Accepted a proposal from Aillet, Fenner, Jolly & McClelland Inc. for the addition of Neel-Schaffer Inc. to the design team to modify traffic signal at the corner of Airline Dr. and Wemple Rd.
