Firefighters train on real structures

Opportunities to hone skills and practice techniques on real structures don't often present themselves to firefighters, but Bossier Parish Fire District 1 full-timers and volunteers got the chance to do just that. Fire Chief Robert Roe took advantage of impending demolition of flood-damaged homes in Tall Timbers to get his crews some experience on structures they may face and the problems they could confront.

District 1 Fire Chief Robert Rowe (white shirt, center) explains the practice drill schedule to members of his department.

An instructor explains the purpose of equipment firefighters will use when entering a burning house. Techniques to minimize damage to outer doors were also covered.

Another instructor shows how to enter a house through the garage door with as little damage as possible.
