Contractor taking bore samples at Vanceville bridge

Contractors for the Bossier Parish Police Jury are taking bore samples at the Vanceville Rd. bridge site to determine the depth where solid ground can be found, which is necessary to set pilings when construction resumes on a new structure.

Increased rainfall and Red River flooding the past two years has caused conditions in the bed of Willow Chute Bayou to change. At the current bridge site, police jury crews could normally drive load-bearing pilings with parish equipment, but the depth to solid ground has surpassed the highway department’s capacity to do so.

Parish officials, with the aid of the testing company’s data, will determine the depth necessary to drive the pilings to insure safety standards are met when the old bridge is replaced.
